Pharmacoeconomics and considerations for injectable products: focus on colony-stimulating factors.

چکیده
OBJECTIVE: To discuss clinical data on the utility of 2 colony-stimulating factors(CSFs), filgrastim and pegfilgrastim, in reducing the risk and incidence of neu-tropenic complications with chemotherapy. DATA SOURCES: This article reviews the data from the clinical studies for bothpegfilgrastim and filgrastim. Additionally, data from large, population-based ret-rospective analyses on the clinical and economic consequences of chemothera-py-induced neutropenia (CIN) are reviewed. CONCLUSIONS: CIN remains an undertreated condition despite the evidence of itsdanger. Pivotal trials show that CSFs like pegfilgrastim and filgrastim are safeand effective in reducing both the incidence and duration of CIN and febrile neu-tropenia in patients who have been treated with myelosuppressive chemothera-py. Approximately 11 daily injections of filgrastim per chemotherapy cycle arerequired to achieve this clinical end point. Pegfilgrastim provides all the clinicalbenefits of daily filgrastim for managing CIN with a single dose per chemothera-py cycle.

Real World Data On Colony-Stimulating Factors (Csf) In Oncology: Patterns Of Use In Brazil.
INTRODUCTION: Incorrect use of colony stimulating factors (CSF) can add unnecessary cost to cancer treatments and adverse events to patients. We conducted an epidemiological study to assess the correlation between CSF use recommendations issued by the Brazilian Regulatory Agency of Health (ANS) and technical recommendations stated by international guidelines. We also analyzed the main reasons f...
متن کاملNew treatment options in the management of IBD – focus on colony stimulating factors
Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is characterized by inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract, typically with a relapsing and remitting clinical course. The intestinal inflammation in IBD is controlled by a complex interplay of innate and adaptive immune mechanisms. Innate immunity comprises a set of distinct elements, which includes circulating cells such as neutrophils, monocytes, and resid...
متن کاملTHE ROLE OF ALVEOLAR MACROPHAGES IN THE PRODUCTION OF COLONY –STIMULATING FACTOR BY THE LUNG
The role of alveolar macrophages in the production of granulocyte/ macrophage colony-stimulating factor(s) by the rat lung was investigated. Lavaged lungs, when incubated at proper weight per volume of culture medium, produced the same amount of colony-stimulating factor as unlavaged ones. Both lavaged and unlavaged lungs produced similar types of colony-stimulating factor (s). Prolonged i...
متن کاملMesenchymal Stem Cells with Granulocyte Colony-Stimulating Factor Reduce Stress Oxidative Factors in Parkinson\'s Disease
Background: Recent studies have shown that bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) have a putative ability to promote neurogenesis and produce behavioral and functional improvement. Our previous study demonstrated that co-treatment of granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) and BMSCs have beneficial effects on Parkinson's models. The main purpose of this research was to investigate the...
متن کاملIn Situ Modulation of Dendritic Cells by Injectable Thermosensitive Hydrogels for Cancer Vaccines in Mice
Attempts to develop cell-based cancer vaccines have shown limited efficacy, partly because transplanted dendritic cells (DCs) do not survive long enough to reach the lymph nodes. The development of biomaterials capable of modulating DCs in situ to enhance antigen uptake and presentation has emerged as a novel method toward developing more efficient cancer vaccines. Here, we propose a two-step h...
